Description

This rare Silvertone Model 1446L, made by Harmony in the 1960s and sold through Sears-Roebuck, is a standout among vintage guitars. Crafted in Chicago, it features a sleek black lacquer finish, a laminated maple body, and a maple neck with a smooth rosewood fingerboard. Known as one of the best instruments ever offered in Sears’ catalog, this guitar boasts a combination of top-quality features and timeless design.

The guitar is in very good condition for its age, showing only minor wear, including light scuffs, scratches, and small dings that add to its vintage charm. The headstock logo is broken, with only half remaining, but the previous owner believes the other half may be tucked away in a jewelry box, adding an intriguing element to its story.

What truly sets this model apart is its mini-humbucking pickups, supplied by CMI/Gibson and featured on the contemporary Epiphone line, but with a distinctive 3-and-3 staggered polepiece pattern. The Bigsby tailpiece and white plastic trapezoidal pickup bezels give the guitar its unique aesthetic, making it a striking and professional instrument.

Despite its modest beginnings as a “budget catalog instrument,” the 1446 is renowned for its playability and sound. The guitar produces rich, versatile tones that defy its humble origins. Chris Isaak’s association with this model further cements its place in guitar history, making it a sought-after piece for collectors and players alike.

With a 24-inch scale length and a comfortable 1 3/4-inch nut width, this guitar is an excellent player’s instrument. Complete with a black gig bag case, it’s ready to be played and enjoyed by its next lucky owner. Whether you’re drawn by its history, its looks, or its legendary sound, this Silvertone Model 1446L will not disappoint.
